Autism Rights Watch – Help Stop Abuse of Autistics in France Now!

 

As announced on France 3, The Prime Minister François Fillon today met the associations forming the “Ensemble l’Autisme” (Autism Together) Collective which is at the origin of Autism, the National Cause in France for 2012. On Thursday, the Prime Minster charged the Minister of Solidarities, Roselyne Bachelot with drawing up a new autism plan, reactivated the National Autism Council and charged Dominique Baudis, the Rights Ombudsman with “close monitoring” of treatments which do not respect human rights.

Here are some extracts from the AFP communiqué of February 9, 2012:

“On Thursday, François Fillon charged Roselyne Bachelot, Minister of Solidarties, with the drawing-up of a new autism plan [...]

On Thursday morning, the Prime Minister received the collective of associations “Autism Together” before calling for ” a collective surge forward and national mobilization to change the way we look at autism.”

Apart from reactivating the national Autism Council Conseil the head of government also charged Mme Bachelot with the drawing-up of a new autism plan, following the 2008-2010 plan which did not reach its objectives in terms of the creation of places.

He also disclosed that for schools integration, the credits for National Education would increase from 350 to 450 million Euros next year.

Without actually naming it, Mr. Fillon also criticized the practice of packing (wrapping in cold wet sheets) for children with autism, which was developed in the 80s.

“In France today, it is totally unacceptable that treatments continue to exist which do not respect a person’s dignity and human rights” warned M. Fillon. The Rights Ombudsman, Dominique Baudis must “closely monitor” this question, he said.
